We’re proud to share international feedback from the University of Colorado, who have showcased their innovative Geriatric Integrated Dental Medicine programme using Design Specific equipment.
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has launched the “GeriCare EveryWhere” initiative – a comprehensive, post-doctoral Fellowship designed to enhance healthcare outcomes for medically complex older adults. A key component of this multidisciplinary approach includes the use of Design Specific’s wheelchair recliner/lift, helping to increase accessibility and quality of care.
Developed in response to Colorado legislation SB23-031, the Fellowship merges advanced geriatric dental practices with broader geriatric care strategies. It is designed in collaboration with GeriCare EveryWhere to train dental professionals in integrating oral health into geriatric medicine.
What Makes the Programme Unique?
- 12-month training combining clinical care and community-based activities.
- Focus on the 5Ms of Geriatrics: What Matters Most, Mobility, Mentation, Medications, and Multimorbidity.
- Rotations across healthcare settings including the Senior and Special Care Clinic (SSCC), UC Health Hospital, long-term care facilities, and community programmes.
- Hands-on interprofessional learning alongside disciplines such as medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, and psychology.

Design Specific’s wheelchair recliner/lift is highlighted in the University’s official poster as a key component in improving accessibility for patients with complex needs. This equipment plays a vital role in supporting safe and comfortable dental care delivery, particularly for patients with reduced mobility.
